Top 2019 Matric Achiever Chooses UKZN to Further her Dream of Becoming a CA

...

Ms Layla Daniels (18), who matriculated with seven distinctions from Bechet High School in Sydenham, Durban, has registered at UKZN to study towards a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting in the College of Law and Management Studies.

Daniels said her career choice was influenced by her passion and purpose. ‘I am passionate about the financial business world and eager to learn more about it. I believe CAs play an integral role in the economy which inspired my purpose to make a positive impact in the financial world, especially given the current state of the South African economy.’

She chose to study at UKZN because of its high academic rankings as well as its reputation for academic excellence.

Daniels added that, while matric was challenging, she persevered.

‘For my final exams, I prepared a study timetable in advance and I stuck to it. Most importantly, I went through as many past papers as I could and if I was unsure about a question, I asked my teachers for assistance. During my matric year I made many sacrifices such as utilising my weekends to get as much studying done as possible and it all paid off,’ she said.

‘I am very excited about this chapter of my life, and am looking forward to experiencing university life and meeting new people. I’m also looking forward to learning at tertiary level and joining the movement to Inspire Greatness,’ added Daniels.
