Master of Commerce in Banking and Investment Management (full research)

Overview

In a world of the competitive environment and the movement towards the industrial revolution and technological advancement, the business community must be aware of the banking and investment solutions that respond to today’s needs. The Master of Commerce in Banking and Investment Management (full research), therefore, takes care of these needs in the making so that various stakeholders are provided with research and innovation skills in banking and investment management to respond to the evolving business environment’s needs. The programme aims to provide postgraduate students with a vehicle to engage with the developments in the world of banking and investments and conduct research to provide solutions to lingering issues in this area. The programme aims to produce graduates who have strong research skills and who are capable of advancing knowledge in the field of Banking and Investment Management and exerting influence on policies and practices in this area.

Programme Outline

This programme is a fully-fledged research programme and does not have taught courses. Students will research an approved topic that lines up with the programme’s objective under a supervisor’s guidance. The students will then present the research reports in a dissertation and graduate with a Master of Commerce in Banking and Investment Management when experts in the field approve the dissertation

Programme Teaching Method

The allocated supervisor will guide the student to work on the approved topic until the dissertation is completed. In line with social distancing regulations, the blended approach of teaching and learning will be used, including but not limited to online interaction with supervisors and online delivery of research support workshops.

Programme Teachers

Staff with expertise in the areas of Banking and Investment Management will deliver the programme by supervising various research topics of the students.

Duration

The programme can be completed over one year of full-time study

Entrance Requirements

Students wishing to register for this programme should, as a minimum, hold a completed Bachelor of Business Science with Finance major, or BCom Honours in Finance, or Postgraduate Diploma in Finance, Banking and Investment Management, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning, or any other relevant BCom Honours and must obtain a credit-weighted average of 55% in these relevant qualifications

Structural Support

Candidates have access to a Postgraduate Research Centre established on campus to offer a supportive environment in which postgraduate students may conduct their research and writing. The Centre features an open-plan study space and a discussion room where students may engage in in-group projects and interact socially (coffee and tea-making facilities are available)
