Biography
Professor Mabutho Sibanda is the Dean and Head of the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance in the College of Law and Management Studies. He joined the University of KwaZulu-Natal in September 2007. Mabutho is a blended academic with six years of investment banking experience and over a decade of lecturing and management in academia. Mabutho is an interdisciplinary researcher with interests in development finance, financial markets and environmental economics. He has published numerous articles covering contemporary topics in financial markets, financial literacy and development finance. He has also attended several national and international conferences. He has successfully supervised numerous PhD students Mabutho has served as panelist in several academic reviews and quality promotions and assurance reviews of programmes and schools/faculties in South Africa and beyond.
Mabutho holds an Diploma in Banking; a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) Honours, and MSc in Finance and Investment, Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education and a PhD in Finance. He is a Member of the Investments Analysts Society of South Africa, an Associate Member of the Institute of Risk Management of South Africa and Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers South Africa.
