Career options as a Chartered Accountant:

  • Auditing: expressing an opinion on the presentation of companies financial statements, detecting fraud etc.
  • Accounting: recording a company’s financial records, generating financial statements etc.
  • Taxation: Applying SA tax laws to a company – generating VAT and tax reports, tax planning etc..
  • Management accounting: Assisting the business to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible, generating costing reports, budgeting, cash flow forecasts etc.
  • Corporate Finance: Assisting the business to structure deals to obtain applicable finance and investing company money most effectively, mergers & acquisitions etc.
  • Entrepreneur: Start a business of your choice with all the financial skills needed to adequately manage the finances.
  • Consultant: Assisting other business with strategic/specialist business advice.
  • Education: teaching and training of others on financial matters.

Then you can be a part of the School of Accounting B Comm (Acc) with the eventual goal of becoming a chartered accountant!

What do you need?

National senior certificate degree with
  • Maths level 5 (not Maths Literacy)
  • English
  • Life Orientation level 4
or
  • Matric exemption with Maths ‘D’ HG/ ‘B’ SG.
  • Minimum 32 NSC/36 Matric Exemption points.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal is accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
You can study your BComm (Acc) at either the Westville or the Pietermaritzburg campus.
