Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at UKZN (3 years)
All candidates are required to complete the three year degree as set out below:
Bachelor of Commerce Honours (Accounting) or Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting (1 year)
The one year Post Grad Diploma in Accounting course comprises the following modules:
The Bcom Hons (Acc) consists of the above modules plus
By passing the Big four subjects (Adv Acc, Adv ManAcc, Adv Audit, and Adv Tax) in one year the student gains a Certificate of Theory in Accounting (CTA) which allows him/her to attempt SAICA’s Qualifying Exam (QE) the following year.
Training Contract and SAICA Qualifying Examinations (3 years)
After the completion of the Bcom Hons (Acc)/ Post Grad Diploma in Accounting, candidates will register with an institution approved by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) for a three-year training contract. During that traineeship, candidates will write two Qualifying Examinations conducted by SAICA for entrance to the accountancy profession.
Once the period of traineeship has been completed, the Qualifying Examinations have been passed and membership of SAICA has been approved, candidates are entitled to use the designation CA(SA).
