The ratings are awarded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to identify researchers who are leaders in their fields of expertise and gives recognition to those who constantly produce high-quality research outputs.

This is a proud moment not only for myself, but also for my colleagues in the Macroeconomics Research Unit. We have been working very hard, together, to narrow the gap between what we know and what we do not know in the macroeconomics space.’

Ngalawa added that high-quality research demands dedication, diligence and hard work, all in one pack.

‘I have benefited from the fact that I am surrounded by very hard-working academics in the research unit. I hope I will live to see them also get recognised for the outstanding advancements in knowledge that they are making.’

Ngalawa’s research interests include monetary theory and practice, structural asymmetries and policy failure, deposit insurance, banking instability and indigenous finance. He has published extensively in many local and international journals including Economic ModellingJournal of Applied EconomicsAustralian Economic PapersSouth African Journal of Economics, and the South African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences.

The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance’s Dean and Head, Professor Mabutho Sibanda, congratulated Ngalawa on this significant accomplishment.
