Janet Bruce-Brand is an economics lecturer. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude), Bachelor of Science Honours and a Master of Commerce (Cum Laude) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Bruce-Brand has over 12 years of experience in academia comprising of teaching various undergraduate and final year courses as well as lecturing econometrics across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has observed that many first-year economics students fail their first economics tests as they try to apply the learning methods they used at school with limited success. Hence as an experienced lecturer, Bruce-Brand believes that she can bridge the gap between school and tertiary education by equipping students with the tools for learning that don’t involve rote memorisation but real understanding and being able to discipline oneself to study.
Bruce-Brand has co-authored an undergraduate economics textbook for South African students. She also chairs an educational committee outside of the University, which allows me to keep up to date with various educational initiatives that may be applied in a tertiary setting.
